The ENLIVEN Intelligent Decision Support System (IDSS) is a document driven system supporting decision making in the context of policy interventions for lifelong learning. To address the challenges identified in Work Package 8, a common repository, a common representation and a similarity measure have been established to index and retrieve relevant intervention documents from the knowledge base of 222 policy interventions for young people not in education, employment and training. Work Package 9 in ENLIVEN reports the developments of the IDSS from a technical perspective based on the knowledge base with the common representation and similarity measure.
In the report, the implementation of the ENLIVEN IDSS has been documented from its user interface design to its software architecture. Firstly, the requirements of the IDSS gathered from different potential users are explained, based on which the essential features of the interface design and the user interaction of the system are illustrated. Two of the essential features of the IDSS include 1) the matching algorithm based on the similarity measure to retrieve the most similar interventions from the knowledge base, and 2) the NLP techniques, which use nature language processing to semi-automate the task of knowledge base maintenance. Finally, a few examples of the documented use cases with screenshots have been presented to illustrate the workflow and functionalities of the ENLIVEN IDSS, including the search / queries of interventions, maintenance of the knowledge base, and different languages in the system.
